Kwankwaso Says Muslim-Muslim Ticket Could Remain Major Debate Ahead of 2027 Election
The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s decision to retain a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket could remain a significant issue in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a televised interview, Kwankwaso said the conversation surrounding religious balance in the nation’s highest political offices has not disappeared and may continue to influence public opinion as campaigns gather momentum.
Calls for Greater Religious Balance
Kwankwaso noted that Nigeria’s religious diversity makes inclusiveness an important consideration in national politics.
He expressed surprise that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly intends to maintain the same presidential ticket arrangement used during the 2023 election, despite the public debate it generated.
According to him, there is still sufficient time before the official substitution deadline for political parties to review their decisions if they choose to do so.
